Why should I bother using humor in my public speaking? Can’t I just deliver my information and sit down? You sure can and that’s what most people do. The problem is that most people are not effective public speakers. They are nighty nite, snooze inducing, say your prayers, hit the sack, unlicensed hypnotists. They are ZZZZZs presenters. They might be experts in their field and be able to recite hours and hours of information on their topic, but is that effective?
Recruiting software must compliment or follow the natural process of recruiting. Notice I did not say the software must be intuitive! You might ask what exactly is natural? If your applicant tracking, staffing or resume database software requires you to perform tasks that you would not ordinarily do then you must question the recruiting software. Now, I have to admit that everything you do as a recruiter might not be considered natural.
If you plan to work for a search firm or agency, fine. They take part of your commission to pay the phone bill, electric bill, rent, postage, internet, etc. You’re then free to focus on your recruiting business. They make a profit from every placement you make so why not double your production by using the supports they have in place? If the supports are minimal, look for a new environment.
Apple presently has 327 total stores and earned $3.5 billion from its retail operation in the third quarter which was up 36 percent from a year earlier. It has been reported by the Wall Street Journal that Egon Zehnder was hired by Apple. This food executive recruiters was founded in 1964 and has 370 consultants working from 63 offices in 37 countries. Apple has been reported to be the second-most valuable company in the world behind Exxon Mobile Corp.
I have been to client meetings in offices that were a pigsty. When human beings enter a new environment or meet a new person, they make a decision as to whether they are impressed, neutral or turned off within 4 seconds.
What makes good recruiting software? This depends on the recruiter or recruiting firm and their business model. There are a number of good recruiting software packages but fundamentally the software must be extremely easy to use, it has to focus on the execution of the client or applicant call and it has to gather information through, what I like to call, the natural process of recruiting. If the software gathers information naturally and easily it will feed into the critical element of recruiting, marketing!
It can be tempting to turn down an opportunity because you don’t have the answers to all of these questions right away; however, if the opportunity is intriguing, it is worthwhile to invest the time to learn more. Worst case scenario, you will build a relationship with the executive search firm and potentially add a valuable new contact to your rolodex in meeting the client.
